Shalhevet is an Israel based program for Spanish and Portuguese speakers who have the skills, cultural understanding, and commitment to work within the many South American communities who are in dire need of rabbinical leadership. Beyond the regular leadership training coursework, Shalhevet offers numerous practical courses to qualify its students to perform various community and Jewish ritual services needed in South America including shechita, mila, sofras, and more. The program is unprecedented in that it offers South Americans for the first time the start-up support and opportunity to return to their communities and revitalize Jewish life where it has been dormant for too long.
